Chongzuo, Guangxi · Beibu Gulf Whales & Dolphins 5D

Duration5 Days
Difficulty 0.5 Star (Family)
According to the latest "List of Marine Mammal Species" published by the Society for Marine Mammalogy, there are 93 species of whales worldwide, including 15 species of baleen whales and 78 species of toothed whales. To date, 39 species of whales have been recorded in Chinese waters, comprising 9 species of baleen whales and 30 species of toothed whales. Due to the relatively late start of academic research on cetaceans in China, despite the country's rich whale diversity, only a few species—such as the Baiji, the Yangtze finless porpoise, and the Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin—have been systematically studied. As apex predators, cetaceans also serve as indicator species for the health of ecosystems. The beautiful and bountiful Beibu Gulf in Guangxi is not only the largest bay in southern China but also a bay that has long been home to whales.

    First Encounter with Beibu Gulf

    Itinerary:

【Morning】: Gather at the airport, then take a bus to Chongzuo

【Afternoon】: Track the nationally protected first-class species, the white-headed langur. Learn about their population distribution, habits, and conduct野外 scientific observations.

The white-headed langur is a species endemic to China. In recent decades, due to habitat destruction, hunting, and human-induced population isolation, it has become critically endangered. It is listed as Critically Endangered (CR) on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (version 3.1, 2012). Thanks to years of conservation efforts at the Chongzuo Bansli White-headed Langur Nature Reserve, nearly half of the world's white-headed langur population now thrives in this habitat, which offers lush vegetation, fewer natural predators, and a mild climate. Led by experts, you will systematically learn about the white-headed langur and have a high chance of observing active groups up close in their natural habitat.
