Tracking the Yangtze finless porpoise and other sympatric wildlife species, and experiencing the rich biodiversity hidden within major cities.

  1. D1: Arrive in Nanjing; Departure or Extension Program

    After meeting at the designated gathering point, then walk or take a bus to the Yangtze River porpoise observation site — in summer at Jiangxinzhou, and in other seasons at the riverside in Gulou. Spend about one hour observing and photographing finless porpoises and various waterbirds. Afterwards, visit the Aquatic Life Science Popularization Hall and other facilities for educational presentations.

    After lunch and a rest, head together to the Nanjing Normal University Museum for a guided visit.

    After dinner (and after dark), go on a night hike in Zijing Mountain to search for urban wildlife such as Asian badger (Meles leucurus), raccoon dog (Nyctereutes procyonoides), Chinese water deer (Hydropotes inermis), and wild boar (Sus scrofa).
